Web design

The most obvious example of my web designing skills is of course this website. I've created every element from scratch: the icons, the backgrounds, the html and css... Only the jquery is not originally my own.
But being a web designer isn't merely about being creative. Equally important are knowing how to work within a customers well-defined existing style and creating HTML/CSS that's reusable for future adaptations. It also means you have to create front-ends your developer colleagues can easily adapt to fit on their CMS.

Interface design

Interface design is a pretty broad subject. So far, among many others, I've created interfaces for mobile phone games, childrens learning applications for the iPad and even an interface for a golfball-retrieval device. Here you can see a couple of examples.

Vector design

I do most of my vector work in Fireworks. My designs range from abstract to cartoonesque to photo-realistic and I've come to prefer free-hand vector drawing over the old-fashioned pencil and paper for sketching purposes.

Photoshop

Apart from setting up websites and retouching images I've used Photoshop to create images for a small agency selling to worldwide media and for Worth1000, a daily online photoshop contest.

Illustrations

Over the years I've created illustrations for projects ranging from punk CD-covers to birth announcements. But all assignments aside, I have never given up drawing and designing just for the sheer pleasure of it. These drawings are mainly cartoonesque in style and most of them are created by coloring in ink on paper drawings in photoshop.

About me

My name is Fake. It really is. I've been drawing ever since I was a kid and started enhancing my drawings first in Corel and later in Photoshop and Illustrator somewhere in the late nineties.

In 2002 I started a company with some friends – we sold t-shirts with my designs on them. It was called Genuine Fakedesign, a name I've been using ever since. In order to promote our shirts on the interwebs I bought an 'HTML in 10 easy lessons' book and started throwing some tables and frames together.

The company closed after 2 years, but my interest in creating websites remained. In 2007 I quit my job in IT-services and got my first job as a designer. Currently I am working as an all-round designer, specializing in web- and interface design.

About this website

This website is created in HTML (as HTML5 complient as possible at this moment) and CSS, with the addition of some jQuery for added fanciness. I've made sure it displays correctly in all modern browsers (and it will tell you if you're using a non-modern browser like IE6) and is optimalized for use by blind or visually impaired people.

Although it looks pretty straight-forward, I've included a couple of nifty little features. For example, since modern smartphones no longer want to register as handhelds but instead show websites as they are presented on your mac or pc, I've created an optional CSS that kicks in when the browser-window is under 1024px wide.
If you're on a PC or Mac you can try and make your window smaller (or bigger if you're on a 1024px wide resolution) and you will see what I mean: the menu disappears and the text takes up the full width of the page.

The side menu is one of the other fun features: if you scroll to the top you will see it will stick to its position, while if you scroll down it starts to move down as well.

Another fun-with-jQuery addition is the taskbar in the top right corner that pops up different content when you click one of the icons. In the near future I hope to get some backend tooling in place so I can offer the option to switch between languages and do something more useful with the email form then just open up an email in your mailprogram.

Anyway, thanks for your attention and for visiting this site!
